Two-Year Project Also Designed to Improve Pedestrian Safety.
Boston, Mass., August 28, 2006 – McCourt Construction has broken ground on the $13 million Commonwealth Avenue Improvement Project. The project is designed to beautify and improve the safety of Commonwealth Avenue from Kenmore Square to the BU Bridge. The public-private partnership was jointly designed by the City of Boston, Mass Highway, Boston University and area residents; and includes funding from the State, the City, and BU.
As the general contractor for the project, McCourt Construction will be responsible for a variety of infrastructure enhancements designed to improve pedestrian safety. In addition to infrastructure work the company will install new lighting, street furniture, planters, trees and sidewalk pavement treatments – all designed to reflect the “boulevard character” of Commonwealth Avenue.
