The purpose of the Silver Line Enhancement Project was to improve the handicap accessibility of a transit line along Essex Street in Boston, MA. The reconstruction of the sidewalks included areaways which were over basements below the sidewalk. The businesses under the areaways were to remain operational and Essex Street was to remain open during construction. Additionally, Essex Street was milled, paved and marked for construction of the Busway express lanes. A new bus passenger shelter was installed and a dedicated bus lane was created by installing a colored asphalt coating on the roadway as well as imprinted thermoplastic pavement markings. The project also included the renovation of an operators building at Dudley Station and the construction of a new standalone public bathrooms building at Dudley Station.
