McCourt History Monday!
•
A glimpse of Maverick Street in East Boston in the early 1980s, our team was hard at work constructing the sound barrier wall around Boston Logan International Airport. Positioned in the foreground is Bob Pelland’s truck, McCourt Superintendent, a nostalgic throwback to our fleet’s distinctive charm. McCourt has worked consistently at Logan Airport since 1946, and snapshots like these reflect our unwavering commitment to quality and innovation.

Happy Women In Construction Week + Women’s History Month!
Join us this week as we highlight the women who make McCourt Construction great! We asked our team to reflect on the National Association of Women in Construction’s theme this year, ‘Keys to the Future,’ and what being a woman in the industry meant to them. Swipe to see a few incredible women across our company as we round out WICW: Alyssa, Meaghan, and Emily!
•
Founded in 1998 by The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), Women in Construction Week aims to further its mission of strengthening and amplifying the successes of women in the field and works to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. This year, it formally takes place from March 3rd to March 9th, but the drive for women in this industry is an endless pursuit. This year’s NAWIC theme, ‘Keys to the Future,’ celebrates women’s strength and knowledge and their vital role in shaping the construction industry’s future.
•
McCourt is a proud member of The National Association of Women in Construction as we lift and cheer on our team and inspire and encourage the next generation.

There is always something new to learn. We’ve spent the past two weeks honing our skills and knowledge at McCourt Construction. As cold weather sets in, we annually gather our team to fine-tune our expertise and skills for the field. Led by our Safety Director, Scott Gorman, and our Safety Manager, Josh Palen, they have meticulously orchestrated a comprehensive week of activities and discussions to elevate and strengthen our team.
During Session 2 of our training, Josh Hade, McCourt’s Railroad Safety Coordinator, spoke about Operation Life Saver, a non-profit organization and nationally recognized leader of rail safety education. Josh’s insightful presentation of Operation Life Saver served as a platform to discuss safety excellence, amongst many other valuable themes throughout training.
Thank you to everyone for your involvement, participation, and commitment these past two sessions! A special thank you to Scott and Josh for your hard work and dedication in running this training each year! We have a truly fantastic team!

McCourt History Monday!

In May of 1984, a call for help went out to the City of Boston; McCourt Construction answered.
As part of Mayor Raymond L. Flynn’s Spring Cleanup Campaign, over 200 members of the McCourt Construction team, Local 223 of the Laborers International Union of North America, and community members came together to clean up hundreds of tons of garbage and trash from 48 vacant lots in Roxbury and North Dorchester. Throughout the clean-up sites, 8 McCourt dump trucks, 16 front-end loaders, and 12 pickup trucks were sprinkled.
Featured in the first photo are Pat Walsh, Local 223 President, fourth-generation McCourt CEO, the late Richie McCourt, and Steve Frick, McCourt VP.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Flynn said, “This shows a commitment to the people in this neighborhood and to the people in the city. Projects like this improve the quality of life. This is what can happen when there is partnership between the public and private sectors. It’s a good day for Boston.”

It was a momentous day for McCourt Construction and East Boston.
On Friday, December 15th, 2023, Piers Park II officially opened for all to enjoy. A state-of-the-art sailing center, playground, seating spaces, and greenspace overlooking our great city. A year of hard work by our incredible team, fighting the elements to construct the second phase of the already popular Piers Park I. (Check out the timelapse video from this past year!)
Kevin Cleary, McCourt Project Manager, shared, "At one of our first meetings with the neighborhood groups, I explained how proud McCourt is to be building this park and the pride that comes with that." Cleary continued, "Now today, everyone can see how hard we worked and witness the finished product, which is beautiful." We are excited to see the joy this green space will bring to the entire East Boston Community.
We thank Massport and the East Boston Neighborhood for championing this project. We could not be more proud of our entire crew and all of the subcontractors and vendors for their passion throughout this project. What a fantastic triumph it is!

McCourt continues to push the boundary. Work on Runway 15R-33L commenced on August 14th, 2023, with a construction timeline planned for approximately 100 days and a 24/7 work schedule. As the longest runway at Boston Logan Airport, Runway 15R-33L is vital for Logan operations. On November 21st, 2023, two days ahead of schedule, we were ready for takeoff. After thirteen phases of work, including three intersections and the reconstruction of three taxiways, Runway 15R-33L is complete. McCourt has an undeniably dedicated crew, and we thank everyone for their hard work and passion.

Dropping by Massachusetts Port Authority Piers Park II project in East Boston, we got a walk-through of progress from Manny, our Site Foreman, who enthusiastically highlighted the impressive developments. With a backdrop as beautiful as this, surrounded by the flourishing transformation of the landscape, we can't help but feel a heightened sense of anticipation to wrap up this park that overlooks our great city. This will be a massive contribution to the local community from Massport. We are appreciative to Massport and our entire team.

McCourt Construction has officially debuted on Instagram, and we couldn't be more excited!
What an opportune moment to launch our Instagram presence, especially considering the recent accolade presented to McCourt's President, Ryan McCourt. This past Saturday, he was honored with the Contractor of the Year Award at the 2023 UCANE Annual Banquet. We congratulate Ryan for this outstanding accomplishment, which coincides with our celebration of the company's 130th anniversary!
